In order to
ensure that our residents' personal property is protected, The Collegian
recommends all residents consider the benefits of Renters Insurance.
The Collegian is not responsible for residents' personal belongings
nor for residents' liability. To protect yourself in the event of
some unfortunate occurrence, renters' insurance is the wise choice.
Why don't some residents
purchase renters' insurance?
- They falsely believe that their landlord
carries insurance that will cover them and their belongings.
- They have never really thought about it
because nobody has made them aware of it.
- They think they can't afford it.
- They think the value of their belongings
is too insignificant to be of concern.
- They would rather gamble that the premiums
that they would pay over time would exceed whatever benefits they
would receive.
What types of losses might
renters' insurance cover?
- Fire damage only or fire damage plus much
more.
- Your personal belongings that are damaged
or stolen on the premises
- Your personal belongings when they are
off the premises, such as golf clubs or a camera stolen out of
your locked car.
- Muggings, forged checks, or stolen credit
cards.
- Personal liability in case you are negligent
as a tenant.
- Personal liability for non-auto bodily
injury claims brought by others.
Renter’s insurance may be purchased
through all the major insurance companies including State Farm,
Allstate, and Farmers. Rates vary but are typically around $90 annually
for $20,000 worth of personal property protection with a $250 deductible.
Liability protection for such a policy is around $100,000.
For your peace of mind, we hope you will consider the benefits
of renters' insurance.
