The Collegian’s Food…Pure Quality
Dining at The Collegian is a wholly different experience from the
standard
college fare. We are the first and, to our knowledge, the only college
residence where quality and sensitivity to both nutrition and the
environment take center stage in our food service.
This Isn’t Your Parents' College Food
To coin a phrase; “This isn’t your parent’s college food”!
You’re a new
generation with new ideas and new focuses and your tastes in food
reflect
both a greater understanding of nutrition and demand for more socially
responsible use of our natural resources. At The Collegian, we are on
the
leading edge of quality college dining.
We believe that chickens should roam freely, that animals should not be
raised in stalls with artificial lighting and hormones, and that good
dairy products don’t need BGH or anything else.
We buy most of our foods from local sources as well as certified
organic
and other food growers. Our eggs are naturally nested without any added
hormones or antibiotics, and our meats are raised on a local farm where
they are pasture-raised without hormones or antibiotics. We know the
person who raises our meats personally and we know where the food we
serve
comes from. Our salad bar Greens are entirely organic and our fried and
house-made goods are trans-fat free.
Every item we serve is carefully tracked for wholesomeness and quality
from the moment it enters our door until it ends up on your plate.
Homemade Goodies
Ask around campus; The Collegian is famous for its homemade baked
goods!
The dining room is often filled with the delicious aromas of fresh
baked
breads, cakes, cookies, and other pastries. In fact, you will find
that
unlike most other college meals, The Collegian’s food is prepared
daily by
skilled Chefs and cooks, and doesn’t come out of the freezer
pre-made. Our
cooks actually do cook!
Your Own Personal Chef
Our yearly menus are tailoured to YOU. Tell us what you like! Talk to
our Chef, or if you prefer, e-mail us. We are here to make your dining
experience at The Collegian one you will want to “write home
about”. Fill
out our “Food Survey” so that we can be sure to put your favorites
on the
menu!
Go International!
Several times a year, our Chef and kitchen staff put on special
“International Nights” where we feature cuisines from around the
globe
with authentic foods and fun. Who knows where we will go this year? In
years past, we have gone to India, South Africa, Greece, Italy,
Scotland
and the Netherlands!
Weekly
During the week, you can grab a quick hot breakfast including breakfast
egg wraps & sandwiches, hot whole grain cereals, fresh fruit, organic
yoghurt, or any of a variety of freshly baked breakfast pastries.
After morning classes, you can return for a hot lunch, sandwich,
homemade
soup and salad bar. No worries if classes conflict with lunch time; you
can pre-order a sack lunch the night before and our cooks will have it
waiting in the dining room for you to grab as you leave in the morning.
After a long day at school, relax and enjoy a freshly prepared dinner
where you can choose from a variety of both meat and vegetarian options
with a full organic salad bar, fresh homemade soup and house-made
breads.
If there is a schedule conflict with dinner time, you can let us know
in
advance and we’ll prepare a “late plate” for you that you can
just heat up
when you return home.
Weekends
Residents can sleep in and still have a hearty meal. A later brunch is
offered on weekends with cooked-to-order eggs, omelets, specialty
breakfast items, fruits, and delicious pastries in addition to the
weekly
breakfast items.
Happy Birthday!
You may not be home for Mom & Dad’s celebration, but we’ll make you
a
birthday dinner right here for everyone to enjoy! You tell us what
you’d
like on the menu, including your favourite birthday cake, and our cooks
will fix your chosen meal to help celebrate the occasion!
Got A Craving?
So it’s not Mom’s cooking, but you are welcome to bring your
favorite
recipes from home so we can prepare them while you’re here. Who
knows?
Your favorite meal might become a favorite for everyone at The
Collegian!
We also feature special celebrations for the Super-Bowl and other
events
each year where you can hang-out with your housemates and enjoy some
great
foods and spirited camaraderie!
Decrease Our Impact on the Environment
The Collegian is dedicated to reducing our impact on the planet’s
limited
resources. Our “plastic” silverware is made from a cornstarch-based
product that is completely compostable, our food containers are all
made
with recycled and compostable materials, and all of our napkins are
also
recycled paper. The kitchen recycles all glass, plastic cans, boxes and
other containers so that the quality of our environment is taken as
good a
care of as the food and our residents!

We are located on the southwest Corner of 18th and Alder in Eugene, close to campus and the University shopping district. The main University library, the Knight Library, is just a few blocks away. For those coming to town without cars, we are also right on the public bus line.
