Is The Collegian a dorm
or an apartment complex?
The Collegian is often considered transitional housing -- housing
to move into after moving out of the dorms and before moving into
an apartment. The Collegian offers the positive aspects of dorm
life by serving 19 meals per week, providing a dining room to socialize
with other academically driven students, and a secure atmosphere
without the noise and large scale of the dorms. The Collegian houses
residents who want the benefits of dorm amenities as well as apartment
privacy.
Can I room as a double?
If so, can I pick my roommate?
Yes, residents are welcome to share a StudioPlex room as a double.
We do not assign roommates. If applicants are interested in rooming
as a double, they will need to apply as a double with their roommate
of choice. Each roommate must give a deposit and be individually
approved.
What is the difference
between the corner and the other rooms?
There are only 6 corner rooms out of 44 rooms. There are 3 StudioPlex
corner rooms and 3 Custom Studio corner rooms. The corner rooms
are coveted for 2 reasons:
1. They have one less neighbor since they are on the corner of the
building and
2. They have one wall of extra windows, which means more light!
Do the rooms have high-speed
internet connection?
Yes. Comcast high speed internet is installed in all the rooms and is included as part of your covered utility cost.
Where is The Collegian
located in relation to the UO campus?
Check out the map.
How many students live
in The Collegian?
The Collegian has 43 rooms available -- 22 StudioPlex rooms and
21 Custom Studios. Each year the number of residents varies between
approximately 43 and 46 depending on the number of double rooms.
Our residents range in age from Freshmen to Seniors. However, the
majority of Collegian residents are typically Sophomores and Juniors. Residents
usually come to The Collegian after living in dorms or apartments
and decide they want a dorm/apartment compromise.
Can students from Lane Community College live at The Collegian?
Yes. Students from both the University of Oregon and Lane Community
College are welcome to apply to live at The Collegian.
Is there an optional meal plan during the academic year?
Meals are included in The Collegian's payments. The meal plan is
not optional because The Collegian dining room is open with unlimited
access to meals while the dining room is open. Unlike the
dorms, we do not have meal cards, therefore, you will not have to worry
about a point system limiting your meals and snacks.
Do I need renter's insurance?
The Collegian recommends that each resident purchases a renter's
insurance policy for his/her protection. See renter's
insurance link for more information.
Is The Collegian closed
during holidays?
The Collegian is open during Winter break and Spring break, however,
there is no meal service during these holidays. Residents may stay at
The Collegian for no extra change during Spring break, but there is a
fee to stay during winter break.
